Domlec launches AMI project

Domlec has partnered with a world leader in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Elster EnergyAxis System to improve customer service, reduce costs and energy losses.

Elster Electricity, part of Elster Group provides intergrated metering and untilization solutions to the gas, electricity and water industries worldwide. Domlec anticipates that this alliance will help to lower operating costs, which translates to lower basic tariffs and reduce the estimated over $7 million dollar costs associated with Commercial losses each year.

Commercial Manager Nathaniel George says  the six month pilot project has already installed 199 Elster EnergyAxis System for customers in the Fond Cole Area. The Rex "smart meters" will be read from an EnergyAxis metering automation server (MAS) located in the United States.

At the formal launching of the pilot project Mr. Geroge said the option of remote connection and disconnection is also avaliable to Domlec. According to him, this new and exciting project from Elster will prove to be a cost effective and efficient solution to reduce the companys' non-technical losses and drive costs down. "We have always said when Domlec saves the customers saves, and that's a good thing" George said.

The new system will also help reduce outage restoration time particularly during the time of natural disasters like hurricane, when we will be able to pinpoint the problem much faster. The Elster EnergyAxis System will allow Domlec to read, connect and disconnect meters remotelly, saving the companty vital operational costs.

Ron Via, Senior Vice Presidents for Sales and Marketing of Elster who was on hand in Dominica for the launching said, his company is pleased to be working with Domlec on this project and they will continue to demonstrate how the system's flexibility and adaptability enable utilities ti implement a cost-effective AMI system that meets their unique needs.
